Creative of this transclassic music, Colette Merklen-Dutournier knew to combine the modes with quarter tone of the Middle East to the moderate system of the piano, the rhythms of great periodicity of Asia to those of small periodicity of the occident, preserving the authenticity of each culture, so she created a symphony of the musics of the world.
She blended the sounds of several occidental instruments : piano, violoncello, violin, double-bass etc..., with various oriental instruments : oriental lute (oud), pipa lute, tombak, daf, zang-é saringôshti (small cymbals of finger, made with copper), tibetan bowl, shakuhachi, koto, chinese viele (erhu) etc…
Her meeting with the poet François de Véra inspired her to compose the music of the poems which he wrote for her.
